We used Ellie Maeder to translate for our Haitian adoption, back in 2003. In fact, we were one of her first customers! I found her to be professional and compassionate, willing to “flex” to meet our rather convoluted requirements for state certification deadlines. The French work was done in a timely, accurate fashion. I traveled to her home to pick up my translations, as we were in a bind and she lived 1.5 hours away. I found her to be an absolute delight! ? (The “bind” was our fault, NOT hers!) ?

"My wife and I are from Tennessee and have adopted two children from Haiti. The adoption process can be an overwhelming at times. There are feelings of great excitement and anticipation. And in some situations, such as ours, there can also be a sense of loss and grief after years of infertility. When we began our independent, international adoption in October 2007, we were not prepared for the intenseness of the paperwork required by the US and Haiti.
Once our dossier was completed it had to be translated into French per the Haitian government’s requirements. Not being fluent ourselves, we began researching to find a competent translator in which we felt comfortable sharing such personal information. We were referred by two different couples in two different parts of the US to contact Ellie Maeder.
The service Mrs. Maeder provided was superb. Not only was she thorough in her translations, she was extremely timely. She also actually invested emotion in our process and was very supportive. Most importantly, none of our translated paperwork was ever questioned or returned by the notoriously thorough Haitian government.
